{Shop the trend} Ankle strap heels

If you buy one fun pair of shoes for the spring/summer, they should definitely have an ankle strap. It’s what all the cool kids are doing ;) I kid, but it is definitely a big trend this year, and one that can look very sexy with dresses and skirts (obviously) or ankle-length skinnies (not so obviously).

If you have shorter legs or are self conscious about your ankles, stick to something with a very thin strap and possible in a color that’s more neutral (like the Mix No. 6 and Jessica Simpson pairs below), so they don’t chop the line of your leg too much.

Fall trends I can’t get behind

Sometime circa 2009, I could have been quoted saying that skinny jeans only looked good on a very small percentage of the population. A percentage that did not include me. Fast forward to today, and skinnies are an integral part of my denim wardrobe. I’m telling you this because I know it’s entirely possible that in six months to a year, you’ll see me wearing one of the items that I mention in this post. But for now, I’m not not that into them.

Loafer-inspired heels. Maybe it’s because I wore a version of these in high school (hello, Steve Maddens with the chunky heel and huge platform), but I just can’t imagine buying a pair of loafer-inspired heels. Some are definitely better than others, but I just don’t feel like they fit with my current aesthetic tastes.

(Jean-Michel Cazabat, House of Harlow, Jessica Simpson)

Midi skirts. Not mini, not maxi, but midi. This trend isn’t brand new, but it’s definitely out in full force for fall. I love the look once in a blue moon, but for the most part, I think that having a hem hit you in the middle of your calf is a super unflattering look.

(Raoul, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Taylor)

Slipper flats. These flats look to me like something your grandfather should be wearing. Enough said.

Are there any fall trends that you’re already sick of? Do you disagree with any of my assessments?

Before I jump into my picks from the June issue of Lucky, I have to say I was very pleased at the lack of cigarette ads/coupons this month, after the debacle in May. Hopefully the publishers took note…
