Best of the 2012 Oscars red carpet

Ladies, this is the big one that we’ve been gearing up for all awards season. The Superbowl of red carpets was last night, and overall, the stars did not disappoint. For me, white gowns ruled the evening, which is not usually my thing. There were a few great bursts of colors — in addition to Emma Stone, Michelle Williams came close to making my list with her coral peplumed gown. And then there was Angelina in black. It was a gorgeous gown, no question. But I can’t take any actress seriously when she’s jutting her leg out of a slit so hard (Lea Michele, I’m talking to you!). That posing alone kept her off of my list.

Drum roll please… are my favorites of the night:

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab (via) — Milla was one of the first to hit the red carpet, and she looked completely glamorous in this one shoulder beaded gown. This is what movie stars are supposed to look like!

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji (via) — Octavia has done really well this awards season, but I don’t think she’s ever looked better than in this gown. She should wear nothing but Tadashi going forward.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli (via) — Blah blah, Nicole Kidman, blah blah. This girl made heads turn last night, and I thought she looked absolutely stunning. The huge bow isn’t for everyone, but I think she really pulled it off.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford (via) — Stunning. Fierce. She looks absolutely statuesque in a gown that VERY few women could pull off. My only quibble was with her ponytail, which looked unfinished.

Cameron Diaz in Gucci (via) — Cameron’s style doesn’t always do it for me, but I thought she looked fantastic. Yes, her hair and her gown are the same color, but she manages to look like herself (somewhat beachy-chic), while still looking appropriate for the Oscars.

Agree? Disagree? Who were your favorites?

Golden Globes best dressed

I was out all day and got home late so I’ve been catching up with the red carpet on DVR. Which is really not ideal, as I’ve not been able to participate in live tweeting. Sigh. Anyway, here’s a quick rundown of some of my favorite picks.

Viola Davis looking stunning in burgundy Pucci, rocking some serious leg. She should wear that color every single day.

Good god, could Frieda Pinto be any more stunning? Her teal Prada gown is fairly simple, but the texture is rally cool, and the jewels make the look.

Rooney Mara has been killing it on the red carpet lately, and she didn’t disappoint tonight (as far as I’m concerned) in Nina Ricci. She’s definitely going with the edgy look right now to fit with her Girl with the Dragon Tattoo role, and I love it.

I still do not get the Stacy Keibler/George Clooney relationship, and I wouldn’t have paired those shoes with this dress, but I can’t deny that Stacy looks beautiful tonight. The red looks awesome against her skin and hair color.

Who were your favorites tonight? Least favorites? Were you impressed overall, or did you think tonight was a bust?

My 2011 Academy Awards best dressed list

When Geoff questioned the need for a 2+ hour red carpet for the Academy Awards, I explained to him that it’s the Superbowl of fashion — those are terms he can understand.

In my opinion, this was a fairly middle of the road red carpet. There weren’t any (or many) horrendous looks, but there also weren’t many gowns that made me drool. That said, many ladies did bring their A games to the red carpet. Here are my picks for best dressed:

Anne Hathaway wearing Valentino.

Hilary Swank wearing Gucci.

Halle Berry wearing Marchesa.

Hailee Steinfeld wearing Marchesa.

Cate BlanchettĀ  wearing Givenchy.

Natalie Portman wearing Rodarte.

Do you agree with my favorites, or did I miss any that you loved?
